General WD WDBRZD0080KBK-NESN description
The WD Sentinel DX4200 Network Storage Server has an easy-to-use WD Dashboard, gives secure centralized storage and seamlessly integrates inside nearly any present infrastructure. Featuring hard drives optimized for dependability, quality and performance, an Intel Atom dual-core processor and Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Workgroup, it delivers a dependable, easy-to-deploy and manage storage server intended for business or workgroup environments.

Recent reviews:

The connector does not work like the 4000 variant You have to add this server to a domain (compulsory), if not, you can not use it as intented, and this is a BIG PROBLEM when you’re working in a small office with workgroup configuration. Shame on this, I really liked the 4000 with Win Storage Server 2008. I’ll have to look to another brands to have better conectivity software.

The DX4200 offers a compact design that WD claims is now the smallest Windows Storage Server available on the market today. That can be true, however it achieves most of its compact form courtesy of an external power supply. A front LCD panel lets simple monitoring of server position, when a lockable, hinged door guards the four drive bays held inside. A characteristic I really love is that the operating system itself is held on a separate 2. 5& 8243; 500GB Western Digital WD-AV boot drive tucked away elsewhere in the chassis, maximising the available storage space on the four drive bays for your data. As an upgrade choice at buy, that boot drive may also be mirrored in a RAID 1 array with a second drive, if catastrophe strikes and your Windows installation fails, it may be restored without too much drama. Open up the drive bay door, and you may be able to slide out the hard drives themselves. The WD Sentinel DX4200 features a simple, flip-down drive bay design which lets users to easily hot exchange the drives as obliged. A key difference of the Sentinel range in comparison to Western Digital’s MyCloud buyer devices is the selection of the drives themselves. While you will see WD’s Red NAS hard drives on those buyer devices, the business-class Sentinel range comes with WD SE (7200 RPM) drives & 8211; all four bays are utilised (each with a 4 TB drive). Upgrades may be bought directly from WD or the common stockists. Around the back of the DX4200, you will find dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 3. 0 for expansion and accessories, a VGA port and twin power sockets allowing the use of a redundant power supply & 8211; keeping the server up and running in case of a PSU problem.

I’m an IT man, have been for 15 years. I run a big data center and a big network. I have three DX4000 12TB units. Two at work for two different domains and one on my home domain. I love them there easy to setup and deploy for clinks backups, with the MSI installer I can push it remotely and the computers show up in the dashboard once they backup. I have these primarily for people who won’t uses the network drives and store there things locally. I have one at home because the crazy amount of storage and backup alternatives. There flawless and I don t have problems with them. Then I order the DX4200. Sweet more ram, newer OS, better possessor.. I’m excited. Well I get it hook it up, give it a static on the network start the config. This unit is nothing like the older DX4000. This thing is so much like windows 8 its not humorous. Can not find dashboard, can not get crap to work. So I call WD for support. They tell me the DX4200 is for IT professional its not a buyer product. WHAT I run a full Vmware enterprises environment with over 30 servers from SQL, terminal, MAS and Exchange and I’am a one man show. I think I can run a NAS. I ended up sending the thing back to amazon and ordering another DX4000. I hope the newer merchandise from WD aren’t going to crap and the DX4000 was the one and only NAS that had it all.
