Recent reviews:

SOLVED 8 YEARS OF WI-FI ISSUES IN 3 MINUTES. THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE NETGEAR XWNB5201 POWERLINE 500 MBPS N300 WI-FI ACCESS POINT:I bought this product with low expectations as I have bought many devices to include “boosters”, many high end wifi routers, etc. Over the years with restricted to failure. I live in a historic home fitted 1920. I have been unable to eliminate dead spots and “dropped” signal in a home with 3200 square feet of brick and plaster, Endless calls and appointments for technicians with 3 different cable/internet providers over the years in an try to resolve the frustrating issues.. To no avail. I had generally left the position myself to the fact that it was still another one of those “old house” drawbacks and decided to stop wasting time and money and accept that it was an exercise in futility to continue my search for a solution, then.. The last technician who came to attempt his hand at resolving the wifi issue told me about this product and related that it worked very well in his home. He pulled out his iphone and googled the product and showed it to me and said “this is what you need”. I expressed my reluctance to purchase still another device that could be tossed into the “Useless” box in the basement closet. He was so convinced that this product could crack my problems that I pulled out my ipad and handed it to him and told him to find it on Amazon as I didn’t want to go out to Best purchase as he suggested. He found the product and clarified that it used the present wiring in my home and all I had to do was plug it in. He gave me his personal cell phone number and said “If you do not like it then call me and I’ll purchase it from you” because the Device on Amazon was a newer variant than the one he had and a better price than he had paid at Best purchase.

It typically shows me good performance. It brings the speed as fast as when it directly is linked with ISP modem in both of wired and wireless (Wi-Fi). But, on occasion WiFi part (XWN5001) isn’t working. Reboot is required and on occasion it is required totally removed from power outlet and plugged in again. I think that its PowerLine link stability isn’t so much good as I projected. Updated on 12/12/2013:I have tested some number of times and tried different settings. I got a point.. Typically I use surge protectors for my electrical things, and those made lower performance power line link. Directly plugged both units into power outlet and intermittent disconnections were disappeared. Updated on 12/22/2013:I bought a warranty for this item. BEWARE; because this device should be plugged in straight to outlet, without any surge protector, you must carefully read the warranty policy of your protection provider. Some of electronic warranty providers don’t protect defected electronics that are harmed by power surge or fluctuation without any power surge / fluctuation protector.

Doesn’t work if you have a house with 2 circuit breaker systems. This looks diametrically opposed to its marketing. The point of an extender is to get it in a room far away from where your computer/router setup is. And before Netgear jumps in to offer to help, i DID call their help line and I DID stay on the phone for a while (with a nice lady in India with a heavy accent I had to ask to repeat herself some number of times – not HER fault, just the reality of it all) then when i got it all hooked up it messed with my Internet and the call dropped. She guaranteed me if the call dropped I could be called back in 60 seconds. I wasn’t. So back it goes, I am over it.
