Recent reviews:

Update 10/5/14: Well, about two and half months after I got it and the wireless adapter has crapped out. Wasted a couple of hours troubleshooting the problem and I’m 99 sure that it’s a hardware issue. I will not change my initial review now, however this could possibly be a sign of the long-term dependability. I will update afterward. Update 11/1/14: Forgot ever making that update, sorry. The wireless adapter was not broken, I think it was an issue with the proxy software my school makes us install to use the university network. As a side note, I have since installed Linux (Ubuntu) on it as a second OS and it runs it beautifully without a hitch. Update 2/11/15: Still running strong. I have been using it with Linux nearly entirely for the past few months, so I have added a small write-up at the end of this review for people interested in that part. This is a nice budget laptop for students and/or people just looking for something to do basic computer tasks. I am a student, and though I already have a nice custom-built desktop computer that I do most of my work on, I felt like I could gain from having something movable to have in-class or while hanging out on campus. This is, clearly, not a laptop for gaming. Out of curiosity I installed Skyrim on it and amazingly it did run the game on low settings (although not with ideal fps) and it ran Minecraft pretty well (minor stuttering from time to time–but still certainly playable). If you are purchasing a laptop with the intention of gaming or any other intensive computer tasks I could greatly recommend you look into the $500+ price range for a laptop with more able specifications. In my case, it runs all the programs I needed it for: Visual Studio 2013, Eclipse, and other IDE’s run perfectly good.

1st, let me start by saying this Asus Laptop may well be the best purchase out there for the money. Now, reasons? 1st, it comes with a dual core Intel Processor. It has a 500gb Hard Drive, and 4GB of ram. Now, set up is simple, if you have never used window 8. 1 before, which is another factor. You do not want a laptop with just windows 8, make sure it has the upgraded 8. 1 variant installed. That has eliminated the nagging little issues that windows 8 first had. When you 1st turn the Asus on, it’ll ask you to verify your Microsoft email account, meaning Hotmail, viewpoint, Msn. I could propose opening up one of these before ordering the laptop, it’ll just save you time previous. Then, after some fast clicks to accept the system setting itself up, you’re good to go. Honestly, this should take about 15 minutes or so. Now, remember, it’ll quickly recognize your wifi connection, and establish the connection for you. Once that’s done, you’re prepared to go. Do not be frightened by the small window panels you see on your screen, they’re nothing more than alternatives to choose, to move around on the laptop. It comes with McAfee Virus and Internet protection, which is good for 30 days, then you may be able to choose to either keep it, or simply use any other program. I strongly propose McAfee or Norton on this laptop. Now, it doesn’t come with a DVD/cd Rom Drive, if that’s a big factor for you, then there’s another Asus model, about $15. 00 more that does include the optical drive. Majority of people find little use for it these days, since nearly everything can simply be downloaded these days anyway. The screen is 15. 6″, bright clear. The sound is nice from this laptop. It has a full size keyboard, 2 USB Ports, one is a 2. 0 and one is a 3. 0, which is for faster performance.

UPDATED 08/09/14:Let me start by saying I’m a tech man, love purchasing and trying new things. The reason I bought this was to see how something so cheap may be any good. I saw how awful chrome $200 laptops are (if you’re smart, you know what I mean). But this laptop is by far a great part of technology for the price tag of $250-280, if you’re on a budget I think you may want to attempt this out. I know lots of you may think because this does not have a touchscreen you should not get it because of Windows 8.. But realize it’s useful without a touchscreen. I have still to use windows 8 on a touchscreen(Besides a phone) and I’m still in love. So like I said before just give it a attempt. Pros:Windows 8. 1Keyboard, spaced out to perfection IMONUMPAD includedPriceVery LightSleekCan watch Netflix, and Play some games. Games I can play smoothly(All on Low-Med specifications): Minecraft, CS:GO, haha, and GTA:SA. DOTA 2 dies not work on this laptop, I have not tried WOW still either. Cons:Touchpad, IMO they may have done better but hey for the price its good, get another mouse if you wantDifficulty to take out parts/Upgrade partsI wish the battery life was a tad bit better. But who does not bring their charger ?in general: 8/10$.
